Dear Lex Eat Together Supporters and Friends
Lex Eat Together has concluded its remaining initiatives effective May 31, 2026. As a result, we have stopped accepting donations to Lex Eat Together on June 30, 2026.
Lex Eat Together was formed in 2015 to provide a weekly in-person dinner in Lexington to those in need of a nutritious meal and companionship. Tapping into Lexington’s volunteer spirit, we hosted over 200 weekly meals, until the Covid pandemic forced us to suspend the dinners in March 2020. Since then, Lex Eat has looked for other ways to address food insecurity in and around Lexington, including two sandwich initiatives and a weekly prepared meals program. However, we have concluded that we are unable to return to our original concept of an in-person weekly meal, given changes in the volunteer environment and our own leadership capacity. Thus, we realized that sustaining our other initiatives on their own was not feasible going forward, so we have made the difficult decision to close Lex Eat Together.
We are grateful to the many people who have volunteered and supported us financially over the years. You have helped us make a difference in Lexington and beyond in addressing hunger in our midst. We hope you share our pride in the impact that Lex Eat Together, a small, volunteer-led organization, has had over the last ten years. We thank you for your efforts and support in providing thousands of meals and sandwiches to those in need among us. These efforts have had a profound impact on the people we have served and have been greatly appreciated. As Jonathan Crockett of Middlesex Community College said, “each week has been a blessing of incredible kindness and generosity.”
As we ended Lex Eat Together’s operations, the Board decided to contribute our remaining funds to other organizations who serve those struggling with food insecurity and hunger, beginning with a contribution to the Middlesex Community College Foundation to support their efforts to provide food assistance to their students. We encourage our donors to support organizations serving others in need, especially those who have been vital partners to our work, like the Lexington Interfaith Food Pantry and Food Link.
With great appreciation of your many contributions to our efforts over the years,
John Bernhard
